Manic about Measurement

After the holidays, we will move into our next math unit which is Measurement. This unit will only be approximately 2 weeks long, and will reinforce multiplication and division concepts as we convert units. Check out some of the video resources we'll use to introduce the concepts!

It can be hard to remember all of the conversions. In the past, we have also shown the students the below image to help with remembering capacity. Can you figure out what each letter in the image stands for?

Jingle Bell Rock!

Every year, the day before Christmas Vacation, MP has our annual Holiday Sing-Along. Each grade level chooses a song to sing along to at a whole school assembly. This year, fourth grade will perform, "Jingle Bell Rock," originally performed by Bobby Helms. Below is the song with lyrics, if you would like to practice at home!

Back at it!

Tomorrow, I will be returning to the classroom after maternity leave. I am excited to see all of the students, and catch up on all they've learned in my absence. While we're going to review some concepts, we'll also begin some new things! Most notably, a new unit in Social Studies, Geography! Check out this amazing video that will be used to introduce our Geography Unit:

Now, you might be wondering what I've done with all of my time off. No, I didn't just search You Tube for amazing videos! I was able to stay home and spend time with my son, Alex. He's three months old now, and smiling and giggling like crazy! It's amazing how much he's grown and changed in the past three months. It's going to be tough to leave him, but I am excited to be back with my students!

Meet the Teacher 2015

Hi, I'm Mrs. Lomando, and I am your fourth grade teacher! This year will be my eighth year teaching at MP, where I have taught fourth grade for seven of the eight years. I love fourth grade and all the learning, accountability, and responsibility that students will encounter!

I enjoy teaching because I enjoy learning. I have undergraduate degrees in Elementary Education, History, and Political Science, and a master's degree in Educational Administration. I love to teach all subjects, especially Social Studies!

I live with my husband and my cat (Isn't she cute?!?), and we are expecting our first baby boy at the end of this summer. Because of this, I will be on maternity leave during the beginning of the school year. Mrs. Stough will be my substitute during my absence, and I know the students will love her! I will be in communication with her throughout my leave, and the students will be in great hands!

I look forward to a great school year, and please do not hesitate to contact me throughout the year with any questions, comments, or concerns that may arise.

Back to School 2015

Welcome to the 2015-2016 School Year! If you have not already, you will receive a letter from the fourth grade team about the upcoming school year. Included in this letter is a supply list. All necessary supplies will be provided by Mt. Pleasant, but I know that students often like to pick out their own supplies. For your convenience, here are supplies that students will use daily:

 • pencil box
• sharpened pencils
• scissors (child sized)
• ruler (with inches and centimeters)
• 1 subject wide ruled notebook
• dry erase markers
• 2 yellow highlighters
• 2 red correcting pens
• box of crayons
• box of colored pencils
• box of markers
• bookmark

I also appreciate any items that you would like to donate to our classroom. We are often in need of:
 • boxes of tissues
• hand sanitizer
• disinfecting wipes

 Thanks so much!

Field Day 2015

On Wednesday, June 10th, our gym teacher, Mr. Barry, planned a fantastic field day for our school! We were able to watch a movie with the third, fourth, and fifth graders in the morning, and rotate through nine different fun activities in the afternoon!

Pack Monadnock

Earlier in June, we had the pleasure of hiking Pack Monadnock as a grade level! Although it was a bit overcast, it was a great hike and a great day!
