State House and New Hampshire Historical Society 2017

For our first field trip of the year, we visited the New Hampshire Historical Society and State House. It was so exciting to experience New Hampshire history and artifacts at the museum, and see government in action at the State House! We even got to meet a few of our State Representatives and State Senator Avard!

Opinion Writing

Soon we will begin our second writing unit on opinion writing. This is such a fun unit because students learn how to formulate an argument about a topic of their choice! We use the Lucy Calkins Writing Unit 2: Boxes and Bullets. It helps students organize their thoughts and ultimately write an opinion paper. Check out the videos below for ideas on how to formulate opinion topics!

STEM-fest: Design an Amusement Park Ride

Today we were lucky enough to have STEM Ambassadors from UNH come to our classroom. They challenged us to build an amusement park ride that the "passengers" wouldn't fall out of. Students worked collaboratively to come up to a solution to the problem. It was such a fun afternoon!

Multiplication Game: Four or More

Since we finished up our first mid-module assessment in math, we decided to have a fun Friday! The students learned the game, Four or More, which is a fun and strategic way to practice math facts! Here are the rules of the game:

  • You may only use facts 1-9 (no 0,10,11,12)
  • Your goal is to get 4 x's or o's in a row (think Connect Four) horizontally, vertically, or diagonally
  • Each player plays 10 rounds. Whomever had the highest score at the end of the rounds wins

Check out how much fun we had playing!
